Preschool Assessment

The Preschool Program at The Joshua School uses assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of each student's individualized treatment program. We assess our students for the first 30 days in our program, and then develop treatment goals based on the results of those assessments. Our goal is to help each student attain the highest quality of life. To measure program effectiveness and help build individualized treatment programs, the following assessments are utilized:

  • Verbal Behavior-Milestones Assessment and Placement Program Results (VB-MAPP)

The Verbal Behavior-Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) is a criterion-referenced assessment, curriculum guide, and skills tracking system for students with developmental disabilities or autism based on B.F. Skinner's Verbal Behavior (1957). It assesses skills based on milestones of typical development (levels one through three, ranging in age from 0 to 48 months) in the areas of: mand, tact, echoic, intraverbal, listener, motor imitation, independent play, social and social play, visual perceptual and matching to sample, linguistic structure, group and classroom skills, and early academics. Additionally, it includes an assessment of potential barriers to learning, readiness for transition, and a task analysis of specific skills.

  • Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, Second Edition (Vineland-II)

The Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, Second Edition (Vineland-II) measures the personal and social skills of individuals from birth through adulthood. Learning about an individual's adaptive behavior helps us to gain a total picture of that individual. The following domains were measured during this assessment; Communication, Daily Living, Social Skills and Relationships, Physical Activity and the Adaptive Behavior Composite.

We offer other assessments specific to the areas of speech, self-help, and motor functioning.
