It’s time for Gala news and we are very excited to announce that this year’s 2020 Gala will feature Denver Bronco wide-receiver DaeSean Hamilton and KOA Radio’s popular talk show host Mandy Connell at our April 23, 2020 gala, during Autism Awareness Month.
Connell, who will emcee the event, is known for her weekdays 12pm-3pm talk show on KOA and bringing local issues alive to Denver. She also regularly features Denver nonprofits on her program. “Her oddball sense of humor entertains as her thoughtfulness informs,” says Ed Nichols, Executive Director of TJS. “She loves a good discussion and she makes you think and makes you laugh.”
DaeSean Hamilton was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the NFL Draft in 2018 out of Penn State. There he’d been a four-year starter and one of the team leaders who helpd to turn Penn State’s fortunes around. “DaeSean is a talented, distinctive young man on the field,” says Nichols. “Off the field, he has a very special connection to autism, which is why we invited him to be our featured speaker at this year’s Gala.”
DaeSean grew up helping to care for his older brother with autism, Darius Hamilton. Darius uses non-verbal communication, and he needs assistance for daily activities, such as brushing his teeth, eating and getting dressed. DaeSean has a powerful relationship with his brother, who he has been helping his parents take care of since he was six years old.
The TJS Gala program, Standing Strong, Transforming Lives, will focus on a discussion with DaeSean and Mandy about growing up with autism. “When a child has autism, the whole family is an important part of ensuring that child has meaningful access to their best life,” says Nichols.
The gala venue is Empower Field at Mile High, United Club Level West Lounge. It is an impressive, premier location for The Joshua School Gala on April 23rd. You won’t want to miss it!
