JOSHUA SCHOOL NAMES KATHRYN CRAIG as Director of Behavioral Programming

Craig Oversees a Team of Teachers and Intervention Specialists at the Englewood Campus

 

ENGLEWOOD, CO, Aug.1  – The Joshua School (TJS), a school for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities has named Kathryn Craig as the new Director of Behavioral Programming effective in April. Craig joins The Joshua School  from Lafayette, CO-based Imagine! to support the TJS Englewood campus school age program.

 

Craig served as a Clinical Team Leader and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) at Imagine! for nearly eight years. Imagine! provides support services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  While there, Craig supervised and led a team of behavior analysts, behavior therapists, registered behavior technicians and intervention specialists.  

 

Her duties at TJS will include supervising staff and students regarding their physical and emotional health and safety. She will oversee and monitor progress towards the Behavioral Intervention Plan for each student. She also will assist the Educational Director to oversee and approve curriculum design and development, and supervise BCBA candidates at The Joshua School to fulfill their certificate requirements.

 "Kathryn brings her experience as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to the Joshua School at a time when we are growing and establishing both behavioral and mental health services as a critical part of what we offer," says Ed Nichols, Executive Director of the Joshua School.  "We are a Colorado Department of Education Facility School and designated Model Autism Site, and Kathryn brings her rich experience in her consulting, training, and behavioral intervention to the TJS staff, students and families from Colorado and previous experiences in Pennsylvania. This experience is integral to the development of appropriate curriculum, data-based metrics, and sustainable teaching environments for the communication and sensory needs of individuals with ASD."

Craig is an expert trainer and educator of caregivers, staff and behavior technicians. Her training focuses on behavior analytic principles and practices relevant to the needs of children with autism.  She began her career as a special education teacher for Easter Seals in Levittown, PA. (2003-04).  From there, she worked for the Bucks County Intermediate Unit in Doylestown, PA as a BCBA (2004-05), and later Craig was a private behavior therapist for Northwestern Services in Lansdale, PA working with clients in a closed setting for children, adults, families, and couples with a behavioral or psychological diagnosis.  She was also a BCBA with Melmark in Berwyn, PA, providing direct care, training and positive behavioral support services for the Melmark Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) for clients ages 19 and older.

Craig earned her BA degree in Psychology from Rider University at Lawrenceville, PA in 2001.  She went on to earn her Master of Education, Special Education from Pennsylvania State University at State College, PA in 2003. While there, she earned an Autism Specialist Certificate, Pennsylvania Certification in Special Education, received her training to be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and was the recipient of a Federal Autism Fellowship, helping train her to provide for the specialized needs of the ASD population.
