In November 2019, TJS was awarded a safety grant by Pinnacol Assurance that will cover 80% of the cost of TJS staff to be CALM trained. CALM training is a series of crisis management procedures developed by The New England Center for Children, to avoid the escalation of behavior and to de-escalate dangerous behavior.
While all staff at TJS are CALM trained, there are also 3 TJS staff members who have been trained as CALM trainers. CALM refresher courses are are performed intermittently throughout the school year and on an as needed basis, to ensure that our students and staff are safe during crisis intervention.
